Collage

This time topic is campus life!
I talked with British students at university of Bath in my trip and visited their campus. In England, there are few private Universities. On the other hands, in Japan, there are many private Universities. University of Bath is a national collage. At first, I was surprised at scale of it. The campus was huge and there is much kind of facilities such as dormitories, restaurants and sports facilities. This picture is their campus.
The most surprising thing is bar. They have bars and it is common to drink in their campus. This is in contrast to Japanese students. This picture is my campus!
My collage is small; there are only about 2000 students! Of course, we don’t have bars, only café. We can’t drink in our campus. So I envy British students. I think Universities in Japan are little formal and boring compared to British! What do you think about this?

  1. I've never been to England, but I have a friend who is a proffessor at the University of Bath. He comes to Kumamoto once a year. He is also a shakuhachi player like me.
I think that Canadian and Australian university campuses are a little freer than Japanese campuses. Japanese students also seem younger than their North American and Australian counterparts. This would be an interesting topic to explore more.

  2. Wow! I didn't know that there are bars in college in UK. It's very surprised for me! I think College in Japan is too rigid. I want something to be interested.

Really? That is quite funny!!! I'd like to listen your playing shakuhachi with him.
When I went to the England, everyone didn't believe that I'm 20 years old. Students in the UK look older than us. It is interesting and I envy them because it is little frustrating.

I think so, too! I want bars in my campus:D University is freer than high school but after I visited university of Bath, I feel my collage is not enough.

  5. I won't have a chance to play with him, but I'll be playing at Kumamoto Castle in Honmaru Goten on Saturday, November 20th (tomorrow)with two of my musician friends from about 6:30 pm.
As for bars on the university campus, I don't see the value in it. I think it would only encourage students not to go to classes. If the bars were only open in the evenings, that might be okay.
